Dipity, a Facebook app built on Freebase

I’m not sure whether to call this combination “Freebook”, “Facebase”, or just to not go there at all. In any case, Dipity (it’s short for “Serendipity”) lets you create timelines about yourself or your friends, or — and here’s where Freebase comes into it — view timelines for any of a bunch of musicians, film genres, or dozens of other topics.

Below is a screenshot of a timeline of album releases by They Might Be Giants:

All of the dates, album cover images, and other data are sourced from Freebase using our API.

Of course, you need to be a Facebook member to use Dipity, but if you’ve managed to avoid that for this long, you’re doing better than me. You don’t need to be a Facebook member to view Dipity timelines (see comments below), though you do need to login to add events to a timeline.

Just a quick add on note…

All of the timelines about actors, musicians, film genres (basically any timeline that’s not about a Facebook user) is accessible to the public like this:
    http://apps.facebook.com/_dipity_/timeline/dt*theymightbegiants

You only need to be a Facebook member to add events to the timeline or follow it and get updates.

    Sorry that url is bogus…

    The correct one is:
