New Topic Design Preview

We’ve been hard at work making improvements to the Freebase topic view. The new design should be available to use in early March, but we wanted to give Freebase blog readers a chance to preview it ahead of time.

New topic design

Some highlights of the new design

  • better conveys the structure of the data and how properties relate to types
  • improves performance: should render page content faster
  • facilitates data input: editing is optimized for entering multiple values with the keyboard

We’re still finishing off remaining features, improving performance and cleaning up bugs, but if you want a preview of the new topic view in action, you can click the ‘Experimental’ link at the bottom of any topic page. For example, here’s the 49er’s page. You should expect this to be a bit buggy until the next release comes out. With the A3.16 release, this view will replace the standard topic view on the site.

Take a look and let us know what you think! Comments posted to this blog entry are a fine way to provide feedback.
