Using the SEC Data that was mentioned previously, I created a graphical network of which companies share board members and CEOs, a sort of social network of companies.
Click on the image to see the full-sized version. There’s a lot of other data represented there including genders, market caps, revenue and locations.

Fascinating, yet slightly alarming.

not (necessarily) alarming at all… if you run a large company, who is better equipped to understand what is good for your company than someone who has experience managing a company that large?
i bet that’s not a skillset common to even 0.01% of the US workforce.
of course if one buys into the ridiculous mantra that big corporations are evil, and profits are bad, then i guess that all would look scary.

http://www.theyrule.net/ has a Flash navigator for this information (using 2004 data).

It might be interesting to add in some government organizations.

What tool do you use to create the diagram? Very nice.

Love this! I totally have a big company fetish.
Oo. Someone already mentioned TheyRule.net. One of my favorite time-wasters ever.
Using size for revenue is interesting, but what about the number of connections? It’s hard to see who has the most connections. Also, a cool thing that TheyRule.net does is to link people to companies – the mapping can often yield all sorts of interesting degrees-of-separation results for orthogonal issues (e.g. Republican vs. Democrats, etc.)
