Graphing quantitative data in Freebase

Mike Love’s been posting on his blog about graphing quantitative data in Freebase. Check out this graph of skyscraper height graphed against year of construction:

Skyscraper height

I love how you can see a burst of construction in the 1930s then a gap during WW2.

Mike’s also graphed maximum aircraft speeds and, getting a bit meta, the number of topics for each Freebase type. Go check it out!

  1. Mike Love's blog Says:

    Freebase treemap: freemap

I took the domain, type, and topic count data from the previous post and fed it into the Treemap java applet by University of Maryland HCI Lab.

If I wait a few months and repeat the scrape, I will color this by percent change in topic count.
