Introducing Phil Gochenour, Doctor of the Docs

Quite different from our bots, Phil Gochenour is one of our newer hires. He’s taken on the task of managing all Freebase’s documentation.

Phil Gochenour

Though Phil’s doctorate is in comparative literature (you might see his username, philg, on Freebase topics for literary figures like Thomas Pynchon), he’s been neck-deep in Web technology since the days of Mosaic and HTML 2.0. Prior to Metaweb Phil did doc duties for organizations like CNET Networks and the University of California, San Francisco, and he gets very excited about things like wikis and structured information systems.

Over the next few months Phil will be digging into pretty much everything that’s been written about Freebase and how to use it, and he would love to hear from you all about your experiences with, and suggestions for, user guides, API documentation, glossary terms, and even the types we use to organize all our documentation. If you have any suggestions or requests regarding documentation, you can comment here or email him directly at phil@metaweb.com.

  2. mattg Says:

Why did you crop out the iMac?

  3. skud Says:

nathan: Not all of us do. Mine’s kind of lame, sounds like it should be followed by, “In Soviet Russia, community directs YOU!” Suggestions welcome ;)

mattg: Well, for starters, it’s not an iMac (I think he has a Macbook Pro), but mostly I just cropped so we could focus on Phil and not on the tangle of cables on his desk :P
