A big thank you to everyone who participated in last week’s Influence data mob. Our new filter/table view helps us see which influence nodes have been recently added. They include Larry Wall (inventor of the Perl programming language), Michael Pollan (journalist and author), and China Mieville (SF author).
This week’s data mob is a little bit different, because for the first time ever we’re focusing on a user domain rather than one in the Freebase Commons.
Ed Laurent’s Motorcycle domain, which I posted about last week when talking about transportation in Freebase, is one of the most impressive user domains on Freebase. It contains information about motorcycles, manufacturers, parts, and even motorcycle magazines, online forums, and videos.
One of the most interesting features of Ed’s domain is the Privately owned motorcycle type. Take a look at Short Bus One (Ed’s own bike) as an example. If you own a motorcycle, why not go create a topic for it and fill in as much information as possible. Of course, when you’re done, enter your bike in the Mobbed topics list.
Even if you don’t ride a motorcycle yourself, you can contribute to this data mob by following the links on the Motorcycle domain page to find information about motorcycle-related topics, and enter facts from those websites into Freebase.
And, of course, you can encourage your motorcycle-owning friends to sign up to Freebase, join the Motorcycle domain, and contribute to what will, I’m sure, quickly become the premier open database of motorcycle information online.
