Highlighting some cool types and domains

Actually, I really just wanted to tell you about something I set up the other day: Namesakes. That is, things named after other things.

Some examples:

I’m finding it pretty addictive; I keep coming up with new things that are named after other things, and having to race to the nearest computer to enter it in.

So what else have people been working on?

The Wearing My Religion domain is for people who love True Religion jeans. They’ve started to index styles of jeans, fabrics, and even different kinds of pockets.

Chris recently posted to the data-modeling mailing list about a Distilled Spirits domain he’s working on. It covers all kinds of single distillation and blended spirits, including whisk(e)y, rum, vodka, brandy, and more. He’s currently seeking feedback on the model.

One of our interns, Alex, has started to model Congressional Voting Records. Although he’s only entered in two Bills so far, this looks like it could be fascinating and very useful when it’s more populated, especially if cross-linked with Robert’s contribution data.

Apart from that, we’ve had a lot of recent work in the Freebase Commons. Some of the domains/types which are new or updated include:

There’s a constant stream of work creating and updating schemas for data about all kinds of things. Join the data modeling mailing list if you’re interested in keeping up with the latest discussions.
