Data mob: Past Olympic Games

We’ve recently created an Olympics domain in the Freebase commons, in preparation for this year’s Beijing Olympic Games, which begins August 8th. Between now and then we’ll be having a few Olympics data mobs, so this week’s data mob is the first one.

Let’s start by looking at each Olympiad since 1896 (the inception of the modern games) and where and when they were.

Go to the Olympic Games type and find one you’re interested in, perhaps one in your country or one you remember from childhood.

(The Olympics were in my hometown in 1956.)

Make sure we have the following data:

  • start and end dates
  • host city
  • venues
  • countries involved

You can often find this information by googling, or on Wikipedia, or on olympics.org. See the links on the data mob page! And when you’re done, add the Olympics you covered to the “Mobbed topics” below.

Oh, and don’t forget the Winter Olympics!
