Put down the burrito and step away slowly: where not to eat in San Francisco

Toby has loaded the San Francisco Health Department’s scores for all the local restaurants into Freebase, and a couple of weeks ago he shared with us this list of restaurants ordered by health department score.

Now he’s created a heat map of the scores using the Freebase API:

Although this Health Deparment information is freely available, it’s not easy to see a broad view of the state of the city’s restaurants. But with Freebase and a little mashup, we can see things more clearly.

I’m a little disturbed to find a patch of red around Mission and 24th street, where some of my favourite taquerias are. On the other hand, it looks like all the restaurants in SOMA, near Freebase HQ, are pretty safe.
