You know about our full Freebase data dumps, right? We just announced that a shiny new set’s available.

We’d like to know what you’re using them for. If you’ve downloaded the data dumps and are using them for anything, or even thinking of using them for something, could you let us know? We’re looking at whether the current format of our dumps is working for people, and how we might want to improve them going forward.

So, if you’d like to tell us about how you’re using our dumps — whether the TSV exports, or the link dumps, or our Wikipedia Extract (WEX) — drop us a line and let us know how you’re doing with them. A comment here is fine, or you can email me at kirrily@metaweb.com.

We’ve just released a new set of Freebase’s full data dumps on download.freebase.com.

Our full dumps contain all the structured data from Freebase, and come in two forms:

A collection of tab-separated variable (TSV) files, suitable for loading into spreadsheet software or the like (there’s also a browsable version of this).

A low-level link dump, suitable for converting to RDF or similar

We also have a new version of our Wikipedia Extract (WEX), which is a structured version of all the articles in the English-language Wikipedia. You can read more about it in our original WEX announcement post.

These dumps are generated quarterly; look out for the next set around the end of September.

We’re delighted to announce that there are now full data dumps of Freebase available for download.

Although Freebase has always had an open API to allow you to query our data, it hasn’t been so easy to get everything that’s there. Well, that’s just changed. We’re now offering full data dumps in two formats from the Freebase downloads page.

The first format is tab-separated variable files, one per Freebase “type”. That is, you can grab the TSV for Films, Digital Cameras, or Shopping Malls and load them into your preferred application, whether that’s Excel or Postgres. You can also find tarballs of any domain (like Sports or Politics), or a giant tarball of the whole lot if you’re that way inclined.

The data in those TSV files is denormalised — that is, you’ll find some of the same information in two places at once — and it doesn’t contain the guids for every single bit of data in it, so you can’t use it to build your own graph. That’s why we’ve provided the second format: a text file full of quadruples that can be reasonably trivially converted to RDF or whatever you like. You might like to think of this as the “advanced” option.

We’ll be producing these data dumps every three months from now on.

If you’re interested in our data dumps, you might also want to read about our WEX (Wikipedia Extraction) downloads.
