Phil, our new Doctor Docs, has written a guide to using the filter/table view that’s worth a look.

Phil walks through the features for filtering and sorting topics, adding topics, adding and removing columns, using and exporting the results, and sharing the results via social networking sites like del.icio.us or Facebook.

• Australian Film Actresses born in 1968, reverse sorted by birth date
• Companies with over $100B in revenue, sorted by revenue
• Italian Visual Artists born before 1500, sorted by name

New Features

• Tabular view of data – data is organized in a clearer, more structured way
• Sortable column headings – items can be sorted up or down by any column heading
• Add/remove columns – add or remove any property of a type (or related types) as a column to display
• Filter on any column – filter on any column, either with strict autocomplete or partial string matches
• Advanced find – ability to enter modifiers (<,>, …), as well as filter criteria without adding display columns
• Add topics- ability to add instances of the type, either via auto-complete or list import
• Use or export this view – ability to export data to various formats, apply types to a set of results, and view the MQL behind the filter

Future Features

• Back button support – retain the filter on navigation back to the filter page
• Save the view – ability to generate a permalink or save a view to Freebase
• Other visualizations – view the results in a map, chart, or timeline

Here are a couple of example pages: company & film actor – however the trick to viewing any of the type pages with this new view is simply to insert ‘type/’ after ‘freebase.com/’ and before ‘view/’ in the URL.

• Prev/Next buttons (pagination) – navigation across multiple pages of results
• Advanced find – ability to enter filter criteria without adding columns, also modifiers (<,>, …)
• Add topics- ability to add instances of the type, via either auto-complete or list import
• Use or export this view – ability to export data to various formats, save new types and view the MQL behind the filter
• View properties – the new schema editor can also be previewed here too, but this isn’t at all functional at this point
• Save the view – ability to generate a permalink or save a view to Freebase
• Other visualizations – view the results in a map, chart or timeline
